Whenever anyone hears the word "dachshund" what almost always comes to mind is the classic "red" or "black and tan" wiener dog. In all actuality, the dachshund has the most coat, color amd pattern combinations and varieties of any breed. Therefore, anyone can have a unique dog to match their own unique personality.
Our favorite part of being dachshund breeders is the understanding of genetics and using this understanding to produce these amazingly beautiful doxie puppies. There are some people who may turn their nose up at something like a piebald long hair dachshund, but we say "Variety is the Spice of Life!" If not for dachshund breeders like Ponderosa Pups, who keep the "unusual" alive, variety would become extinct. These dachshund colors, coats, and patterns have been around for HUNDREDS of years.
We are passionate about and specialize in the unique, rare and eye-catching dachshund. We take a lot of pleasure in offering the unusual. So, if you prefer a smooth, slick, short-haired wenier dog, a wirehaired "thistle-faced"dachshund or a lovely, flowing long haired Dachshund beauty, We feel confident that we can provide that for you. Check out our "Past Puppies" pages and you'll see what we mean.
Dachshunds come in three coat types and we are proud to offer all three here at Ponderosa Dachshunds. . The shorthaired type is called a smooth coat. They tend to be the most popular & very easy to maintain. They love to snuggle under the covers and can be talked into wearing clothes. The long haired Dachshund variety is usually my favorite. I love the long flowing beauty of them. They shed very little and require no professional grooming. They tend to be a little calmer and more affectionate, especially the males. The wirehaired Dachshund variety is very often referred to as the class clown of the Dachshunds. They are very good natured, funny, and highly intelligent. They do not require professional grooming, however some prefer to have them stripped. You can see my section on grooming on the HowTo Care For Your Dachshund page.
Ponderosa Dachshunds Colors... it would be impossible for me to fit on this page the color, coat and pattern combinations available in the Dachshund world. I have spent many hours over many years researching them, learning how to identify them and produce them. Here at Ponderosa Pups, we are very happy to be sharing our love of the dachshund breed and all of their coats and colors with you.
