Paperwork
Requirements for Dachshund Breeders
Learning the Paperwork requirements for dachshund breeders
I'm
sure if you are anything like me.. you are a major animal lover that
would rather spend time with your dachshunds than anything else in the world!
Right? Well, I'm afraid successful dachshund breeders
must "wear many hats". You'll need to get in touch with your
"inner secretary"! LOL Now seriously, there are many paperwork requirements for dachshund breeders. You
are required to maintain a set of records for your dogs and for your
breed registry. Each and every single dog you own must be
documented from birth to the time they leave you.
AKC paperwork requirements for Dachshund Breeders
AKC forms should be maintained on all of your breeding dogs. At first, you may think some of these paperwork requirements for dachshund breeders
are a little redundant, but you will find them to be very useful tools
through the years. I can't count the times I have gone back
through old files to look up info on one of my doxies, or their
puppies. It's especially helpful with keeping track of your
customers and which dachshund puppy they purchased. For example,
you will receive many phone calls from your past customers that need
help with lost papers. Times like these are when you are so happy
that you have adhered to the paperwork requirements listed below.
You can go to the AKC
website and click on downloadable forms. That will get you
started. Here is a link.
Paperwork - Forms for Breeders from the AKC
Dog
Ownership and Breeding Records are the main thing you
should look for. Every dog you own should have one of these in their
file. But, you will also find forms here for registering a litter,
requesting a duplicate registration certificate, etc.
Medical Record Keeping
You will need to keep a medical
record for all of your dogs, too. To keep track of shots,
worming,
tests, etc. that you or your vet performs. Keeping healthy dogs
in the only way to be a successful and reputable dachshund breeder.
Record keeping in this department will help you keep track of
what has been done..and what needs to be done next.
Different strokes for Different folks
There are many
different ways that breeders keep records on different things.
All I can say is that your record keeping system must adhere
to
certain rules, but you can still adapt them to meet your needs. I
personally keep a book on all of my litters, a book that contains
all of my pedigrees, and a few others that may sound silly to you
at first. But, I'm sure as you learn to be a good breeder, you
will learn to be a good bookkeeper, too. There is a certain
amount of trial and error to all things.
Good luck to you!
