Red Miniature Dachshunds
This is easily the most common and the most recognizable color in the whole Dachshund Breed. As a matter of fact, I would say that most people in the world believe Dachshunds come in two colors..the red and the black and tan. I would even go further, by saying that most people think this color is called "brown" or "tan". I know this all to be true, because I used to be just like them! Half the people that call us on a daily basis are looking for a red miniature dachshund. Smooth coat! Occasionally Long Haired. Most people would be shocked to find out there is something like a wirehaired dachshund at all. Then, just like me.. they check a few websites, do a little research and fall in love with all these different varieties. This is the number one reason we added all these new color, coat and pattern pages. To educate and spread the word about the MANY faces of the Dachshund.
Still, there will never be anything to replace the classic beauty of a stunning red miniature dachshund! Even with reds there are many possible shades of color. From a pale dilute to a deep rich mahogany. Throw in a pattern and coat and the red dachshund can be a very diverse thing. Red Dachshunds should have black noses, paw pads and black nails. Dilute reds will have red noses, paw pads and nails. A clear red (or ee red) has no black hairs at all and has black nails, nose and pawpads. A shaded red has black tips on some of their hair, usually the ears and tail. Sometimes, a black stripe that goes down the back of a smooth coat. This is not to be confused with a red sable who will have black tips on the whole body. There is also the chocolate factored red that will have a chocolatey red color and chocolate nose, nails and paw pads. (and probably a few I left out!)
